People
(April 2004)
The
Person of the Month for April 2004 is Jennifer Chiou. What
makes her so unique is that she always has the sunny-look
on her face. Look at the picture below (not the person at
left, that's Goofy)! Don't you think she's just a teenager?

To her
friends, Jennifer is one of the sweetest, nicest and cutest
girls. She always brings laughters and joys to friends and
families.
Where's
she come from? Jennifer was born in Taipei, Taiwan and
lived there until she was 16 years old. Then she moved to
Honolulu, Hawaii with her family and lived there for one
year. The high percentage of Asian population in Hawaii
helped her to get through much of the culture shock when
she first moved to America.
College
Life? She went to UCLA and got her B. S. in Biochemistry
in 1995. Two years later, she received her M.S. in Environmental
Engineering from the same school in 1997. In UCLA, she met
the most important person in her life, Paul, who later became
her husband.
Hobby?
She loves nature and likes travelling. Her favorite hobby
is mountain hiking.
Current?
She works as a water quality engineer for a water resource
control consulting company. She and Paul live happily in
Los Angeles.
Dream Project? The biggest dream in her life is to
visit all the national parks in the U.S. The most memorable
hiking experience she had is the hike to the top of Half
Dome in the Yosemite National Park. The whole trip took
14 hours, from before Sunrise to after Sunset, for a total
elevation gain of about 5,000 feet!
Personal
Website? She has a personal website: www.PaulandJennifer.com.
What
does her friend say about her? One of her best friends,
Lucy, provided the following highlights:
- "She
always has a big smile on her face; she looks like a kid
all the time (and a kid inside of her heart). She's one
of the sweetest and caring girls.
- She
and I studied under the same program (M. S. in Environmental
Engineering) in UCLA in 1995-1996. Our friendship started
there.
- During
the intensive college life, her frienship meant a lot
to me because everything was so new to me. We experienced
the same kind of heavy homework and stress study before
the exams.
- She
used to drive me to my dorm after evening study. I also
remember she gave me a ride to my first job interview.
- She
brought flower bouquet for me on the graduation ceremony
in June 1996.
- She's
the only UCLA friend that I still have contact.
- She
and I toured Niagara Falls and Toronto area in June of
1998 and had a wonderful time together.
- She's
the bride-maid at my wedding in 1999. I also attended
her wedding in 2001.
- We
try to visit each other once a while. I visited Jennifer
in Los Angeles in March 2002. She also visited me in San
Francisco in January 2004.
- Best
wishes to Jennifer and her family!"
